Item Description

Pforte in the Erongo Mountains was known for its sharp, deep purple Fluorites. These were found during the construction of the railroad around 1900, and no real mining was successful until about 1970. For the location, these gemmy, mint-green Fluorites are exceptional. The intergrown crystals are large, and their etching has given them a rounded, free-flowing appearance that is simply cool. #2860 in Kay's collection, she acquired this piece in 1963. That makes one think that maybe, just maybe, this green Fluorite dates back to way before the last round of mining commenced. That would make this small cab even more noteworthy, if the appealing aesthetics weren't enough already.
