Item Description

Labeled as Herdorf, this very fine and dramatic cluster of Goethite is almost certainy from the Wolf Mine, which is famous for its Rhodochrosite specimens. These parallel stalactites are composed of highly lustrous, brownish-black Goethite with a thin outer coating of brownish Goethite. The fabulous luster on the conchoidal surfaces is hypnotic and really accentuates the color. When you look at it closely, the luster creates a feeling of depth, as if you were staring into gemmy obsidian. This impressive 360-degree piece has excellent aesthetics and interesting form. Acquired by Kay in 1960, it was #1173 in her collection. Goethite is rare from Grube Wolf, with this being an exceptional example from this noted locale.
