Item Description

Purchased by Kay (#704) a half-century ago, this is a superb combination piece featuring sharp, well-formed Siderite and Calcite crystals. The rhombic Siderites are a nice olive-brown color, have excellent luster, and they are translucent with flashes of gemminess. The largest of these are 1.4 cm on edge, and they are complemented by hundreds of sharp, 3-4 mm white Calcite crystals. This is really an excellent specimen in every regard, and certainly the very best I have seen from Herdorf. However, I am not totally convinced that the location in Herdorf is exactly right, as this is more reminiscent of of the Siderites from the Neudorf area. Either way, this small cab is choice and aesthetic. Formally in the Keuser Collection in Germany.
