A second generation of lustrous and translucent, smoky quartz crystals has overgrown a core of milky white quartz, many scepters perched upon the original core. The pattern of the smoky quartz crystals, to 3.5 cm in length, is known in the trade as 'alligator quartz", but this is a striking example and from a highly unusual locality. Ex Charlie Key Quartz collection, which I purchased back in 2007, to the Rick Hottel Quartz collection. In person, the sheer geometry of this piece makes it leap out...it is really quite unusual overall. NOT just another quartz!
