Item Description

Many years ago the Masua mine in Sardinia, Italy produced some incredibly eye-catching yellow Smithsonite specimens, probably the best yellow color seen from any locality. This material is cadmium-bearing Smithsonite, and the brilliant color is not only desirable, but incredibly hard to find in nature. Here we have a fantastic, electric yellow color gem with a standard "Emerald" cut. These gems are incredibly rare on the market as I'm told the locality finished mining over 50 years ago, and you can only find material in museums or old collections. Yellow is a fairly rare color in the gem world when you eliminate things like Citrine and Sapphire, and neither of those gems ever have the intense color of this stone. This is a great opportunity for any rare stone collector to pick up an attractive hard to find gem for a great price.
