Item Description

PLEASE NOTE that this piece weighs approximately 8.5 pounds (approximately 3.9 kg), so there will be a fairly hefty shipping fee. Please keep this in mind when bidding. It's an older specimen from mining in the 1970s, so it easy to see how the localities could have been mixed up. This is a gorgeous, showy, three-dimensional large cabinet display specimen of Pyrite featuring, large, impressive striated pyritohedra free of matrix. In fact, it's actually crystallized all the way around, including the back, making it a complete "floater" specimen! The faces of the Pyrites are rather sharp, with GREAT luster that classic silvery-golden color. The crystals are big and robust, measuring up to a whopping 11.2 cm. The overall aesthetics and elegant form of the piece make it a very desirable Pyrite specimen from Peru. It displays very well, and truly stands out among countless other "boring" Pyrites I have seen from this country. Small crystals of Tetrahedrite, gemmy reddish-orange Sphalerite, Quartz and Siderite can be seen coating the Pyrites, which are beautiful to view up close. No real damage that I can find, and very fun to view in a display case AND with a loupe! Valued at $4,000. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #2221).
