Item Description

If you've ever seen a Pyrite from this famous locality, you know they feature some of the most unique and unusual crystal habits seen for this beloved species. The highly modified crystals from Nanisivik are immediately recognizable with their beautiful crystallization and sometimes brilliant / splendent faces. This piece comprises a cluster of classic Nanisivik Pyrites measuring up to 2.7 cm with minor matrix. Upon close inspection these crystals are notably compressed with cubic, octahedral, pyritohedral and possibly thin dodecahedral modifications (?) that can be seen running along the edges. One crystal shows what I believe to be diploid faces as well! The faces on nearly every crystals are notably smooth and pretty lustrous with that classic brassy color. The piece is not completely damage free, as there are a few imperfections, but the overall quality is still very good for the locality and Pyrite in general. A great piece for any collector of Canadian minerals, Pyrites or worldwide sulfides. Priced in the inventory at $1,000.
