Item Description

By now I'm sure most people are familiar with the gorgeous multicolor precious Opals that have come out of the Tsehay Mewcha locality in Ethiopia. These specimens are truly eye-catching, showing amazingly brilliant colorful patches that in some cases rival classic material from Australia. It has to be one of the most significant Opal discoveries in decades. Here we have a 25 piece lot of hand-selected precious Opals measuring from 2.3 x 1.6 x 1.2 cm down to 0.7 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm and weighing a total of 130.65 carats. Looking closely, you can literally find every color of the rainbow in these specimens and they show how the material ranges in terms of color, clarity, quality and overall appeal. Some specimens are nearly 100% transparent while others are nearly opaque, and you can see how the color ranges from piece to piece in the photos. You can spend a great deal of time looking at this material up close, as the colors and patterns change like a kaleidoscope. Every piece in this lot is sold, no doublets or "reinforced" specimens, just 100% natural untreated pure multicolor Opal. A great lot for the starting bid, as it seems the material has dried up, and we may not see it again on the market. Everything I'm seeing on the market is old material mined several years ago.
