Item Description

When it comes to Quartz, everybody has probably heard of "Herkimer Diamonds". While they have nothing to do with Diamonds, their sparkle and gem clarity make them some of the finest gem quality Quartz crystals around. They typically have well-defined pyramidal faces with little to no prisms, giving them a distinctive appearance. Here we have a lovely small cabinet display piece featuring many fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, GEM TRANSPARENT, colorless "stubby" crystals of Quartz measuring up to 2.1 cm long forming a wonderful group on matrix. I think the matrix is honestly the biggest key here, as very few "Herkimer" crystals are found on matrix, let along a wonderful group like this. Additionally, the piece is NOT REPAIRED or reinforced, this is exactly the way it came out of the ground. The piece is very aesthetic and three-dimensional, and while there is a little bit of roughness, the vast majority of the specimen is undamaged. Very cool old time material from this classic and world-famous specimen producing area in upstate New York. Valued at $950 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5341). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
