Item Description

The Barites from Stone are some of the most classic and easily recognizable Barite specimens from anywhere in the world. The distinctive blue color along with the fine crystallization and excellent gemminess of the crystals is iconic. This piece is from the famous Leeson pocket found in the late 1980s and features a group of parallel crystals with sharp, well-formed faces and that classic blue color which really comes through when the piece is backlit. No real damage that I can see, just a bit of attached host rock that interrupted the growth of the Barites. The piece is actually doubly-terminated, as you can see a few small terminations on the bottom. It's complete all the way around, and a few of the thinner / smaller crystals are nearly 100% WATER CLEAR. Very good quality and very eye-catching. These specimens are rarely seen on the market now and are true classics from Colorado. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
