Item Description

Good examples of crystallized Powellite are not common in the mineral world, but the Jalgaon locality in India has produced the most impressive examples of the species extant. Powellite forms a solid solution series with Scheelite, but is much harder to find around the world. Here we have a wonderful, large, nearly 2-inch crystal of Powellite with a light straw color, and textbook pseudo-octahedral from. The termination of the crystal is notably gemmy, which is impressive for the species, especially in this size. Very good condition all around, with only a tiny bit of edgewear, and it's obviously not complete on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. The crystal fluoresces beautifully under SW UV light. The old label accompanying the piece had it valued at $1,500 in 1993, but it's certainly worth more today - conservatively $2,500 for the size and quality.
