Item Description

A gorgeous and showy cabinet display specimen of beautiful thick blades of Apophyllite measuring up to 4.8 elegantly set atop a layer of sparkling white Quartz / Chalcedony on basalt matrix. The crystals are very sharp, well-formed, lustrous and show fantastic internal "phantoms". There have been many green Apophyllites to come out of the Deccan Trappe over the last few decades, but the notable yellow color on this specimen is RARE from India, and for Apophyllite worldwide! The piece has such fantastic form, arrangement and balance, it displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. Superb condition all around, the only imperfection I can see is a contacted crystal on the reverse side of the piece that cannot be seen when the piece is displayed. Valued at $3,000 for size, quality, and the rare yellow color. Minerals from India might be fairly common on the market, but you cannot deny that many of them are the finest crystallized examples of their respective species, and this one is actually and old timer dating back 20+ years. From the collection of Dr. Stephen Neely. Steve is a practicing surgeon from the Nashville area, who has been collecting minerals since the 1980s. He spends his free time out of the office tracking down miners and minerals from the famous Elmwood and Cumberland mines of Tennessee. He also has a position on the board of directors of the Mineralogical Record magazine.
