Item Description

Over 10 years ago, some impressive finds of Amazonite in Ethiopia were made that potentionally rivaled those from Colorado. This is a showy specimen of that was mined in 2003 and features a predominant, large, 9.0 cm, sharp, very well-formed, blue-green crystal of Amazonite with a wonderful stepped appearance that is associated with a multitude of smaller crystals of equal quality. What makes the crystals even more attractive is the fact that they have a selective deposition of another Feldspar species (possibly Anorthite) which has created highly desirable and sought after "striped" habit crystals! This particular style of Amazonite is not often seen in any world localities, and to find it from Ethiopia is practically unheard of in my experience. The Amazonites are sitting on a stable crystallized plate of white Albite with what appears to be a tiny bit of Smoky Quartz on the underside. The Amazonites have beautiful color along with good blocky form, and virtually no damage to speak of, save the base of the specimens were it was removed from the pocket wall. It's a truly impressive piece on a worldwide scale for Amazonite. Originally valued at $2,000 in the inventory.
