Item Description

From the famous, old mining district of Les Malines, this very fine combination piece consists of classic Bournonite crystals on a layer of Sphalerites. The silvery-grey Bournonites have a good, metallic luster and an overall tabular form. About half have begun to develop the classic and highly sought-after "cogwheel" habit, with the largest of the crystals being 3 cm across. These rest on a dense carpet of translucent Sphalerite crystals that cover the limestone matrix. There are scattered, well-defined crystals of both species on the reverse side. Choice and desirable older combination material (at least several decades old) from the collection of well-known Italian collector Dr. Francesco Bedogne'. This great association piece from Gard has no damage and is quite attractive for the material. These are classics from the largest lead-zinc deposit in France, dating back to Roman times. Better in person, even. ex Bedogne collection valued $1500-1800
