Item Description

Excellent combination piece featuring a linear cluster of ultramarine-blue Lazurite crystals. This family of Lazurites here ranges from Papa Lazurite, who is 4 cm and euhedral with rounded edges, all the way down to the twin babies who are 1.5 cm and rounded. Lazurites do not often have multiple associations, but these do. There is an abundantly rich layer of fine Pyrite crystals, a layer of small Phlogopite crystals that fluoresces both gold and orange, and a layer of surprisingly sharp, tabular Nepheline crystals that reach almost to 2 cm across in one case (VERY RARE ASSOCIATION!). For the quality, size of the crystals and overall aesthetics, this is certainly a worthwhile Lazurite from this most historic of localities, and the Type Locality in fact. it is also the biblical source of the Stone of Kings, from ancient times. It should be noted that much of the Lazurite from this locality, after much lab-analysis, is in the process of being redefined as a sulfide-rich variety of Hauyne. Possible new name, same fine aesthetics. This is a very display-worthy combination specimen, and has real "presence" of size and color impact. Valued $2500. ex Herb Obodda old dealer stock
