Item Description

This modern gold / copper mine in Laos was certainly a surprise for collectors when some stellar quality Azurite specimens starting appearing on the market a handful of years ago. In terms of appearance and quality, you could easily compare them to the classic specimens from Bisbee, Arizona or the more contemporary specimens from Milpillas, Mexico. The two finest aspects of the specimens are the gorgeous color and amazingly "wet" luster. This piece is no exception as it is packed with very sharp and highly lustrous, incredibly well-formed, gemmy intense blue colored monoclinic crystals of Azurite measuring up to 1.2 cm which are set upon host rock matrix. Up close you can see the that the quality stands up against Azurite from many world localities. The specimen is not completely undamaged, as I can see a couple small contacts, and Azurite is notoriously difficult to photograph, so take my word for it when I say the piece looks better in person. These specimens seems to have dried up quickly, and there may not be any more in the future as there are only three copper pits at the deposit, and they seem to be mining them out quickly. Priced in the inventory at $2000, and well worth the starting bid. The piece comes with a FREE custom lucite base.
