Item Description

Years ago there were so many of these superb quality sulfides from Peru on the market, and they seem to have disappeared recently. This piece features lustrous, sharp, well-formed, large, metallic, golden (very slightly iridescent) Chalcopyrite crystals measuring up to 3.5 cm on edge. The Chalcopyrites have a slightly stepped appearance, but still show excellent tetragonal scalenohedral form. Associated Quartz and cream colored Dolomite is a classic combo from this storied locality. This is a fine quality LARGE CABINET display specimen, and these pieces are becoming more and more difficult to obtain these days. Only a tiny bit of damage on the display side, but the crystals are certainly larger than many Chalcopyrites I've seen from this mine. Valued at $1,500 and probably worth more in today's market considering the size and quality of the piece.
