Item Description

The historic Susanna Mine of Scotland is the Type Locality for Lanarkite, a lead sulfate mineral, and this old-time specimen is a superb example of the species. There are several well-developed clusters that show very well in the vugs. The tapered, acicular crystals average about 6 mm in length, and they are gemmy to translucent. Really quite excellent for the species, and having multiple vugs enhances the quality of the specimen even more. The Lanarkite is associated with Pyromorphite, Galena, and an unknown fluoresent that may very well be Macphersonite. Lanarkite was discovered in 1832 and this outstanding and rich piece certainly dates to that era. The provenance is also excellent, having been in the collections of W.F. Davidson, Dr. Otto Runge, Ralph Merrill, and Ralph Sutcliffe. An old and rare specimen!!!
