Calcite (var: Manganoan) on Quartz (ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection)

A sculptural and eye-catching display specimen featuring a 2.1 cm semi-spherical group of pink Manganoan Calcite sitting on a prismatic, very gemmy, Quatz group. The back of the Quartz crystal has some stepped / texturla growth, but no real damage that I can see. A lovely small cabinet from this prolific locality in Inner Mongolia. Ex Dr. Steven Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
