Item Description

This locality has produced some of the most distinctive and signature specimens from China. The best of the Scheelites are incredible and world class for what they are. This particular piece features sharp, lustrous, translucent, rich orange color, pseudo-octahedral crystals of Scheelite which are associated with tabular, gemmy, colorless "Goshenite" Beryl crystals on the reverse side which measure up to 1.7 cm. The quality is excellent and the best of these specimens are some of the finest examples of crystallized Scheelite in the world. The piece is largely undamaged, and it's even crystallized on the back and bottom, so it's nearly a complete "floater" with only a few tiny points of attachment. It obviously shows classic bright blue fluorescence under UV light. Valued at $1,500 for size, quality and the Goshenite association. Ex Dr. Steven Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
