Item Description

These are truly some of the most distinctive crystals in the world because virtually no other species has this amazing color. These Manganese-bearing Vesuvianite crytals are rather vibrant with an intense reddish-violet color. This eye-catching miniature specimen features prismatic crystals with the classic purplish-pink color that is intermixed with starkly contrasting classic green hue of Vesuvianite within the same crystals. The largest crystal measures 2.7 cm long. Most of the crystals are undamaged, and the only real rough spots are around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. I like the fact that a few of the Vesuvianites are actually free-standing, and not lying flat like so many examples from this locality. The crystals really have great luster and form and look beautiful up close. Valued at $1,500. Pieces like this are becoming very scarce on the market, and truly should be appreciated for the uniqueness. The Jeffrey Quarry is now completely defunct and these amazing Vesuvianite specimens are no longer being found. Great condition, and the main crystals is actually DOUBLY-TERMINATED! Very attractive in person, hard to photograph. Ex Charlie Key personal collection. Charlie is arguably the most sucessful dealer of the second half of the 20th century, along with being the namesake for TWO mineral species (Keyite and Ludlockite).
