Item Description

It's hard to find good quality Pyrite thumbnails from Concepcion Del Oro, and this particular piece is a great example of this uncommon material. Obviously the unusual habit is what immediately draws one's attention as it is not equant / isometic, but rather compressed or elgonated along one axis. The piece shows pyritohedral and cubic faces with notable striations, but the fact that it's "stretched" in one direction makes it unique and special. The piece has wonderful brassy color and metallic luster as well. The piece is not only fine quality for the locality, but it's nearly a complete "floater" as it's crystallized all the way around, with only a small point of contact on the back. If you collect thumbnails, sulfides or Mexican minerals, don't miss out on this really attractive specimen from this famous copper-producing area in Mexico. From the worldwide thumbnail / miniature collection of Irv Brown.
