Item Description

The Aqumarine specimens from the Sawtooth Mountains / Batholith of Idaho are well-known for their superb color and gemminess. They are seldom seen on the market, as the area in which they are found in fairly inhospitable and remote. This piece was personally collected by Geary Murdock circa mid 1970s. The best of Geary's Aqumarine discoveries remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. This piece is a nice reference specimen featuring sharp, lustrous, gemmy, RICH blue color prismatic hexagonal crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm with minor Mica (Zinnwaldite - ?) on cream colored Microcline matrix. For the size, the color is notably strong especially when compared to equal sized crystals from various localities in places like Pakistan or Brazil. PLEASE NOTE: Most of the crystals are contacted - not terminated - but they do show good gemminess and near water-clear transparency in areas. A nice specimen of this famous and elusive material. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock.. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
