Item Description

Here we have a classic specimen of Benitoite from the now closed Gem Mine in California. These are some of the most recognizable specimens in the world and they are renowned for their quality and beauty. This piece hosts a predominant, single, sharp, gemmy, trigonal, beautiful blue color crystal of Benitoite measuring 8 mm associated with a few smaller Benitoites plus a tinby bit of white Natrolite on matrix. The main crystal shows excellent gemminess when backlit, and even though it's contacted on the back, it's still a good representation of this fast-disappearing material. Buy these pieces while you can, they will continue to vanish from the market since the mine is now defunct. Valued at $400. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. Among other accomplishments, Geary was responsible for discovering some of the finest gem grade deep blue Aquamarine crystals in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho - which remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
