Item Description

This piece came with hand-written paper label that states it's from a place called "Valley Trinidad" in Baja California. I can't find a listing for this locality in any database, but I'm leaving it simply as Baja California. It does resemble couple crystals I've seen from the area as it shows classic prismatic monoclinic form and even though it looks black and opaque, one can see a beautiful internal "root beer" color when the crystal is strongly backlit. Superb, sharp, lustrous faces and no real damage that I can see with the naked eye. A great piece to add to a thumbnail suite or a collection of Mexican minerals based upon the rare locality. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. Among other accomplishments, Geary was responsible for discovering some of the finest gem grade deep blue Aquamarine crystals in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho - which remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
