Item Description

The Elmwood Mine is world famous for its gorgeous Fluorite specimens. This piece is an unusual specimen for the locality as it's a complete "floater" cube, which is not often seen from Elmwood. We typically see etched "floater" crystals of Fluorite which have lost some of their crystal form, but this piece is still incredibly sharp and lustrous. The "back" of the crystal completely re-crystallized after becoming detached from the pocket wall during formation, and you can actually see a few small Dolomite rhombs that grew after the Fluorite was finished crystallizing. The color is an intense purple, and when the piece is backlit, it shows wonderful "phantom" zoning. No damage that I can find, and a really special and unique example of this beloved material. From the worldwide mineral collection of Michael Garced, and formerly in the collection of noted Elmwood collector, Dr. Steve Neely of Tennessee. Valued at $1,250
