Item Description

There are only a handful of places on earth that produce gem quality, euhedral crystals of this purple variety of Kunzite. For a long time the only places you could get a good gemmy Kunzite was San Dieog County, California and Minas Gerais, Brazil. In the last 20+ years we've seen some fantastic Kunzites coming out of Afghanistan. This piece is a lovely crystal from Nuristan with notably sharp and lustrous faces, which is significant as many Kunzites will often show heavily etched and dull faces. This piece has great luster on every face, and is quite gemmy (virtually water clear in areas), but my favorite aspect of the piece is the fact that shows an intense glowing pinkish-purple color when viewed lengthwise down the "c" axis. This is typical of Kunzite, but I never tired of seeing the effect. In addiont to the wonderful sharpness, luster, gemminess and color, the crystal is actually doubly-terminated showing dozens of tiny "teeth"-like pyramidal faces on both ends. It's not completely damage free, as you can see there are some contacts, but it honestly looks better inp e person as it was difficult to photograph. Weight is 192.45 grams. From the worldwide mineral collection of Michael Garced. Valued at $1,750 retail.
