Item Description

A classic specimen of the beautiful and UNDERRATED pink Fluorapatite specimens from the La Marina Mine in Colombia (not too far from the famous Emerald mines in Boyaca Province). This attractive display specimen features very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, tabular crystals of strong pink colored Apatite intergrown into semi-parallel growth clusters sitting on beautiful white bladed Albite on matrix. The largest crystal measures 1.3 cm across. Apatite is one of those minerals that typically shows more of a pastel hue in smaller crystals, but these Apatites are notably rich in color. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #2281). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
