Item Description

A classic old specimen of this famous material. Superb specimens of Ludlamite are only found in a few worldwide localities such as Huanuni, Bolivia; Cornwall, England; and Santa Eulalia, Mexico. This specimen features very attractive, razor sharp, lustrous, well-formed, beautiful green color, GEM/ gemmy, monoclinic crystals of Ludlamite on matrix. The largest crystal measures 6 mm, and they are beautiful up close. These are the finest Ludlamite specimens from the United States, and only second in North America to the Santa Eulalia pieces. The piece was mined in the late 1960's. Valued at $1200. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #250). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
