Item Description

A superb matrix display specimen of the famous, classic Perovskites from the type locality in Russia. This piece hosts a predominant 1.2 cm, very sharp, rather lustrous, rich brownish colored pseudocubic crystal of Perovskite with an accenting "sidecar" crystal sitting among foliated rich green Clinochlore crystals on host rock matrix. The main Perovskite is undamaged and has superior luster and sharpness compared to many I've seen from the locality. It's difficult to obtain good sized isolated crystals of this calcium titanium oxide on matrix like this from any locality, and pieces from the type locality are highly sought after by collectors. Fine quality and real old Russian classic. Valued at $1,800. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #731). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
