Item Description

The famous Prospect Park Quarry is one of the most impressive (and under appreciated) Zeolite localities in the world, along with being a prolific Prehnite producer. This quarry has produced some amazing specimens in the last 100 years. This specimen features gemmy, beautiful green color, distinct "finger"-shaped groups of Prehnite forming casts after preexisting Anydrite with additional "clamshell"-shaped Prehnite crystals. Great aesthetics and no damage on the display side. Sadly, this great New Jersey locality is being filled in for a housing development (like so many of the great Trap Rock localities in this area), and pieces like this one will be never be collected again. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #331). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
