Item Description

A wonderful display specimen of Fluorite from Naica. This is not the typical green cuboctahedrons we're used to seeing, but this actually older material with a completely different habit. The predominant habit is octahedral, but if you look at the ends of the crystals you can see that they have four tiny triangular dodecahedral modifications with a small cubic face in the center. The majority of each lavender Fluorite crystal has a frosted appearance, but the modified faces on the corners are sharp, lustrous and quite gemmy! As a matter of fact, you can actually see right through the corners directly into center of the Fluorites to reveal that they're virtually water clear inside! Aside from one nicked corner on one of the Fluorites, I don't see any real damage with the naked eye, and the piece truly stands out as one of more interesting examples of Fluorite I've seen from Naica. Minor Pyrite, Quartz and Galena can be seen on the reverse side. Valued at $1750 for quality, aesthetics and obscurity on the market. The piece dates from the 1970s. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4002).
