Item Description

A beautiful display specimen of the classic scalenohedral Calcites from Cavnic. The piece hosts attractive, sharp, "feathery", stepped crystals of Calcite measuring up to 4.3 cm long sitting on Pyrite and Sphalerite matrix. The crystals are dotted by iridescent golden Chalcopyrites for a great touch. The piece is damage free as far as I can tell with the naked eye, and displays well from several angels. You just don't see this material on the market these days from Cavnic on the market, and if you collect Romanian minerals, or worldwide Calcites or just carbonates, don't miss out on this one. BETTER IN PERSON, don't pass this one up. Valued at $850. From the worldwide collection of Tom Campbell. Tom is a mineralogist and mineral collect who works with us here at The Arkenstone. He has over 35 years of experience in the fields of exploration geology, mining, and applied mineralogy, and has even more years under his belt as a collector! Tom has described many new species over the years, and discovered the rare phosphates Tiptopite, Fransoletite and Pahasapaite. Tom was also a co-author on the second edition of the Encylopedia of Minerals. You can see a list of Tom's published works here ( https://www.irocks.com/thomas-j-campbell-publications-list ).
