Item Description

An impressive large cabinet display specimen dating back to 1835 (41 years before Colorado was even a state!) featuring a 15.1 cm long, sharp, lustrous, translucent, richly colored Smoky Quartz crystal that is beautifully set on contrasting red (iron-stained) Microcline matrix. There is a wonderful old 3x5 card accompaying the piece that states it was collected in 1835 (Pike's Peak was first discovered in 1806 and first climbed in 1819), and there is also a label attached to the back of the specimen that states the piece was collected in 1835. For the considerable age of the specimen, it's in wonderful condition. The termination of the Smoky has only a tiny bit of edge wear, but overall I can't see any damage worth noting. If you collect Colorado minerals, historic specimens or big showy display pieces, this is a great opportunity to pick up a very eye-catching specimen for your collection. Valued at $2,400 for the size, quality, aesthetics and age.
