Item Description

Easily the finest Canadian pyromorphites come from the Society Girl Mine, a small lead-zinc deposit worked in the early 1900s. Pyromorphite is a rare species from Canada. Most of the fine specimens were collected from the dumps in the 1960s and 70s. This outstanding and sculptural matrix miniature has a striking spray of hoppered olive-green prisms aesthetically perched on the matrix wedge of either cerussite or quartz (both rare from here). The lustrous prisms are translucent to opaque. The hoppered terminations are desirable accents. Complete all-around and pristine. A very high quality older matrix example of the species and locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6239 and acquired from the Hamels at the MSSC Show in 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
