Item Description

This is an extremely rare and showy specimen of this very rare silver species, with SUPERB discrete crystals, from the classic and best locality of old Broken Hill. This outstanding piece is rich bromian chlorargyrite, also known as embolite. The very sharp, light brown crystals have excellent waxy luster and are up to 8 mm resting on the botryoidal manganese oxide matrix. This is a rare member of the group of related silver chlorides from Broken Hill, and hard to obtain today in good specimens. This super piece was probably mined around the the turn of the 1900s. Ex Harvard and George Elling Collections. Valued at $1000-1250, for quality, crystal isolation and richness.
