Item Description

A rare and fine quality specimen of opaque black Andradite Garnet crytals from the Balls Hill locality at Franklin. Sharp, well-formed, lustrous, dodecahedral crystals with trapezohedral modifications measuring up to 1.1 cm sit on the underlying matrix to create and eye-catching display specimen. Minor Woodruffite is present as well. These specimens are extremely difficult to find on the market, and any Franklin collector will tell you that they are sought after. Don't miss out on this attractive overall piece especially if you collect worldwide Garnets or Franklin minerals. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #218). The back of the label states that piece came from John Sinkankas. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
