Item Description

A superb example of the classic Kunzites from Afghanistan. This beautiful crystal is a very sharp, incredibly well-formed, prismatic, doubly-terminated "floater" crystal with a saturated pinkish-purple color when viewed along the "a" axis, but if you look down the "c" axis you will see an incredibly vibrant, stronger pinkish-purple color. The predominant termination shows a classic broad "Roman sword" shape, while the other termination shows many stepped "teeth" with a slightly hollow cavity, making this a bicolor, doubly-terminated "floater". Each end of the crystal actually shows a beautiful soft greenish color. Additionally, the crystal is remarkably gemmy with WATER CLEAR sections that would yield fine gemstones. Lastly there is a small spot of the piece where an orange crystal of what we believe is Spessartine can be seen. There are really only three places in the world that produce fine quality gem crystals of Kunzite: San Diego County, California; Minas Gerais, Brazil and various localities in Afghanistan. Most of the San Diego County locales are not producing anything, and Brazil rarely produces SHARP, EUHEDRAL crystals like this one, so even though they might be present in the public consciousness, they are not very common around the world. The piece weighs in at 189 grams. Priced at $3,500 in the inventory.
