Item Description

A classic example of the pinkish-lilac Hexagonites (a manganoan variety of Tremolite) from one of the few knowns localities for the material. Hexagonite is only found in New York state, and the pieces from the Gouverneur Mine are iconic. This is not a massive specimen of Hexagonite, but rather shows defined crystal faces on both the front and back. One particular 3.1 cm crystal stands out on the specimen as it's darker and gemmier than anything else on the piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#899). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
