Item Description

A dramatic, sculptural and RARE two-sided betekhtinite combination from the Dr. Francesco Bedogne Collection # 2049. The world's finest betekhtinites, a rare Cu-Fe-Pb sulfosalt, easily come from this famous mining district. A 1.7 cm bundle of moderately lustrous, matte gray needles is aesthetically set on one end of this surreal two-sided piece. The bundle side, with a striking 3-dimensional ridge crest is composed of glassy terminated quartz crystals and flattened calcite scalenohedrons. The other side is totally different, as it is composed mostly of parallel-growth flattened calcite crystals, to a large 4.5 cm and doubly terminated, scattered isolated single betekhtinite needles and a few glassy quartz points. These came out in the 1990s. A most impresssive, architectural and RARE two-sided combination. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=118. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
