Item Description

Realgar included barite crystals are a very highly desirable and uncommon species from the historic gold and polymetallic mines at Felsobanya. This exceptional old-timer features blood-red realgar strikingly, preferentially included in only the cogwheel-like terminations of the sculptural jackstraw cluster of glassy, lustrous, translucent barite blades. Previously in the Warren Bieber Collection of California. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1683 and acquired in June, 1960 from Willard Perkin. Comes with a fine old printed label with an 1877 date written on the back, when Felsobanya was part of Hungary. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). An outstanding old-timer from Baia Sprie.
