Amethyst (scepters and reverse scepters) with Calcite* (*Calcite is rare from Bolivia) viewBack to THANKSGIVING WEEK FINE MINERAL COLLECTION and INVENTORY LIQUIDATION AUCTION - end SATURDAY November 24th, 2018

Bombori, Potosi Department, Bolivia
  • Starting Time:11/15/2018 06:45:00 PM(CST)
  • Ending Time:11/24/2018 06:30:00 PM(CST)
  • Time Left:Auction Is Closed

  • Size:Small Cabinet
  • Size Description:5.4 x 5.2 x 2.2 cm

Description:This specimen is a great small cabinet size piece consisting of excellent quality, sharp, GEM/gemmy, prismatic, lavender Amethyst crystals that show very scepter and "reverse" scepter habits, plus simple prisms measuring up to 1.6 cm sitting on sharp, lustrous, translucent, modified rhombic Calcite with a thin layer of underlain "Chlorite" on matrix. Normally, one would not notice the mention of such a common species like Calcite, but despite its frequency around the world, it's RARE from Bolivia. This piece is remarkable for Bolivia as it features a type of crystallization for Amethyst that is virtually unheard of for this country. This is one of the better pieces from the find for quality, aesthetics, diversity of crystal habits and overall appeal. A cool association specimen of this now very hard to find material.
