Here we have a beautiful specimen in the form of a fine quality, lustrous, jet-black crystal group of Ilvaite. The piece is nearly complete-all-around, save the back / base where it's contacted from being removed from the pocket wall. The terminations are sharp and chisel-shaped. A lovely miniature of this now hard to find material. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
