Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from this very obscure locality and less well-known Kentucky county in the southeastern portion of the state. A 3.5 cm colorless calcite scalenohedron with intense stepped-growth faces is the focal point of this striking, sculptural and colorful geode in limestone matrix. The pretty orange, oxide-tinted, saddle-shaped dolomite rhombs lining the geode really add color and contrast to this very aesthetic piece, that has a sawed base. A few tiny marcasite crystals are scattered on the dolomite. Two crushed stone quarries and a roadcut in the county list both species. Older VERY RARE combination material, as it comes with a label from the 1960s or 70s. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
