Item Description

Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen hosts a few superb quality, sharp, highly lustrous, cyclic twinned crystal groups of Cassiterite sitting on small brown Siderite "discs" on matrix. The main twin measures 2.7 cm and is one of the finest crystallized twins of Cassiterite that I've had to offer in the auctions from Viloco. The color in the Cassiterite ranges from black to colorless to a deep root beer color. The piece is in great shape overall, with only minor imperfections. This particular piece was mined in the late 1970s and shows a wonderful style that was coming out of the ground nearly 40 years ago. These classic specimens from Viloco are simply not seen for sale in today's market. Valued at $1500.
