Item Description
A striking and sculptural, large specimen of calcite scalenohedrons included with sand from a difunct South Dakota locale, Rattlesnake Butte (Devils Hill) near Interior. The crystals, up to 7.0 cm, grew in the Miocene sand matrix. You can even see the prominent horizontal bedding planes in the sandstone! An artistic, 360-degree specimen, with only modest contacting and rubbing. It displays well without aid. Ex Al Ordway Collection # 8168. Old material seldom seen today in this quality.
