Bauxite (aluminum ore)

Bauxite is the primary aluminium ore. Primary USA deposits were located in Arkansas, where production started in about 1894 and ceased in 1985. It is a mixture, and rock, comprised of iron and aluminium hydroxides/oxides. The host rock is weathered syenites. This striking piece is composed of orbicular nodules of bauxite in matrix and is a classic example of the species and locale - interesting ore material
