Item Description

Superb, VERY RARE and rich old-time acanthite from the historic Ag-polymetallic-U mines of the Annaberg District of the renowned Erzgebirge. The accompanying old label clearly shows this is from ANNABERG and not the more commonly seen Freiberg District. The sculptural 360-degree piece is composed solidly of lustrous to moderately lustrous crystallized gray acanthite. Isolated sharp glassy nailhead spar calcite crystals and clusters of tabular pokerchip-style rhombs are outstanding complements and accessories on both sides of this exceptional small cabinet. Probably from the early to mid-1800s. Ex Herb Obodda Collection. The specimen is illustrated in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale. Valued at $2000 for richness and rarity. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
