Item Description

Some of the finest example of Adamite are those from the world famous Ojuela Mine. The range of colors and excellent crystallized display specimens make these pieces a worldwide classic for the species. This piece is from an older discovery (circa 1950s-1960s) and features several well-formed, sharp, lustrous, beautiful "sword"-shaped crystals of translucent soft yellow colored Adamite sitting on a thin layer of Limonite matrix. What makes this toenail specimen so special is the fact that the individual crystals are quite large, at least for the yellow material. Most of the yellow or green Adamites from Ojuela featuring small tightly intergrown crystals which often form spherical shaped groups, but this piece hosts large crystals (measuring up to 1.3 cm), which are very good sized for this particular material. Additionally, the piece shows excellent fluorescence under SW UV light. No major damage and truly impressive in terms of quality and crystal size. A must have for any fan of Mexican material or specifically minerals from the Ojuela Mine, or for anybody who loves Adamite! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6044). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
