Item Description

A large, textbook, and uncommon Almandine Garnet from Zimbabwe. The Karoi District is well-known for its gemmy blue Euclases, Topaz crystals, and yellow-green Heliodors, but surpringly not these fine Almandines. This FLOATER has excellent form and is in very good condition, with only minor wear on a few edges. The luster is high, and it really help bring out the deep mahogany color. These rare Garnets date back to the 1970s, as Southern Rhodesia officially became Zimbabwe in April, 1980. The symmetry of the crystal, as well as the luster, help create a fine aesthetic that really catches the eye. Formerly in the collections of Earle Thornton and Richard Blackman with old labels. Sharp! From the collection of East Coast collector, George Elling, specializing in historic minerals of the East Coast and minerals from the development of old European mineralogy.
